Mamatha

“In the community where I live, many parents are worried about their children’s education. Poverty and circumstances have forced us to always live from hand to mouth. For many girls here, education rarely extends beyond the 8th grade. My father passed away due to health complications, leaving my mother, a homemaker, with no choice but to work as a maid to keep our family afloat. Like many, I was also on the brink of dropping out of school. Had I not received the scholarship, it would have been almost impossible for me to continue with my education. I want to study science and pursue Biotechnology. And I want to help girls in my community complete their education.”

Mamatha is a recipient of StandUp India Foundation’s Education Support Program which is helping her continue her education.

Nagarathna

I heard from my neighbours that this place is offering free learning opportunities, so I came here to learn yarn and tailoring. I also have 2 children to take care of, and the tailoring skills I acquired at the StandUp India Foundation helped me to earn money from home and become more independent.
Nagarathna, a 36-year-old mother residing in Bellandur, Bangalore, faced challenges in her education as she got married early. Unfortunately, her husband fell ill and couldn't walk, Nagarathna with two children in a below-poverty family. Determined to provide education for her children, Nagarathna started working in a nearby household, ensuring a reliable source of income. Additionally, she pursued a tailoring course at StandUp India Foundation, where she started to earn money from home and become more independent.
